Word Choice - Unwelcoming

This word stood out a lot to me as it added a lot of detail and almost added a lot of emotion to that sentence. From reading the story, we know that Hassan's mother ran away right after he was born and didn't even wish to look at him. The word unwelcoming helps to emphasize that neither Hassan nor Ali were really welcomed into her life and she didn't have much happiness from being pregnant with her son. It really makes one think that Hassan was almost not allowed in her life, and even more specifically, inside of her.
